The Story of Red Run: From Creekside Roots to a Thriving Warren Community

Long before storage units, storefronts, and busy intersections, the Red Run area of Warren was shaped by water, land, and people who believed in building something that would last.

The name Red Run traces back to Red Run Creek, a natural waterway that once flowed through this part of Macomb County. Early settlers noted the reddish clay banks visible along the creek—especially after rainfall—which gave the “run” its distinctive name. Over time, the creek became both a geographic marker and a point of reference as Warren grew from farmland into one of Michigan’s largest and most active suburban communities.

A Community Built on Hard Work

As Warren expanded through the mid-20th century, the Red Run area evolved alongside it. What began as open land gradually became home to small businesses, trades, and service-based operations that supported working families. Automotive suppliers, machine shops, contractors, and locally owned businesses took root—many of them family-run and built to serve the long term, not just the moment.

Growth here was steady, practical, and community-driven. It was never about flash—it was about reliability, relationships, and showing up every day to do things the right way.

The Red Run Area Today

Today, the Red Run corridor reflects a blend of deep roots and continued progress. Longstanding local businesses operate alongside newer development. Families still live where generations before them once did. And while the city continues to modernize, the character of the area remains grounded in pride, accountability, and community connection.

Those same values are what allow family-owned businesses to thrive here—businesses like Red Run Storage.

The Taylor Family and Red Run Storage

Red Run Storage is not simply located in the Red Run area—it is part of its story.

In 1978, Carl Taylor and his father purchased the property and transformed it into Red Run Storage, recognizing a growing need for reliable, accessible storage for local families and businesses. From the beginning, this was a hands-on operation. Carl and his wife, Dorian, ran the business together, building it steadily through dedication, long hours, and a deep respect for their customers.

Carl and Dorian built their lives and family in Warren, raising their two sons on the Red Run property as the business grew around them. Their sons were born and raised on the property and later went on to attend Central Michigan University. After completing their education, they returned to the area to build their careers, start their own families, and remain actively involved in the legacy their parents created.

A Family Legacy, Still Going Strong

Today, Red Run Storage continues as a true family operation. Rick, a public-school teacher, brings dedication, consistency, and strong community-first values to the business, while Josh, a prominent real estate broker in Royal Oak, contributes expertise, long-term vision, and a deep appreciation for the property’s role in the surrounding area. Behind the scenes, Aunt Carla takes immense pride in keeping the grounds clean, welcoming, and well cared for—because when you respect your customers, the details always matter.

More Than Storage

For nearly five decades, Red Run Storage has served neighbors through moves, renovations, growing families, downsizing, and life transitions. It is not a corporate facility with distant ownership—it is a family-run business built on hard work, trust, and heart.

That connection to the land, the community, and the people who rely on it every day is what defines Red Run Storage.

And it always has.
