(Because even campers need a little divine guidance before winter hits.)
Whether you’re a seasoned traveler or a new RV owner still figuring out the dump valves, storing your camper isn’t just about parking it and walking away. There are rules — some written, most learned the hard way.
So before you tuck your rig in for its seasonal nap, here are the 10 Commandments of Camper Storage every road warrior should follow:
1. Thou Shalt Empty Thine Tanks
Black. Grey. Fresh. All of them. Trust us, you don’t want to be greeted by a “surprise” next spring.
2. Thou Shalt Clean Out the Fridge
Even the smallest crumb can spark a rodent rave. Wipe, air out, and prop it open so it doesn’t turn into a science experiment by April.
3. Thou Shalt Disconnect the Battery
Give your battery a break and save yourself from replacing it when the season starts again. (Bonus: take it home where it’s warm.)
4. Thou Shalt Not Store With Food
This includes spices, snacks, and mystery cans. Mice have Michelin-star taste — don’t give them a reason to book a reservation.
5. Thou Shalt Check for Leaks
A little drip can turn into a moldy mess. Seal it, patch it, and thank yourself later.
6. Thou Shalt Secure Thine Roof and Vents
A tarp is not a roof, friends. Use a proper cover or breathable material to protect your investment (and your sanity).
7. Thou Shalt Label Thine Cords and Hoses
You’ll forget which one goes where by spring. Label them now and save the confusion later — future you will be impressed.
8. Thou Shalt Notify the Storage Office of Any Changes
New trailer? Sold the old one? Added a boat? Make sure your information is up to date. (At Red Run Storage, all equipment must be registered with the office!)
9. Thou Shalt Keep It Personal — Not Professional
Remember, this is personal-use storage only — no work vehicles, no equipment, and definitely no commercial operations.
10. Thou Shalt Visit Occasionally
Pop in once or twice during the off-season to check your cover, tires, and overall condition. Your camper deserves a wellness check too.
Whether you store your rig for three months or all winter long, following these commandments will keep your camper blessed, protected, and ready for its next adventure.
Now tell us — which commandment have you accidentally broken before? (No judgment here, we’ve all sinned against the storage gods at least once.)
