Gone But Not Forgotten: What Your Camper’s Thinking in Storage

Hi.
It’s me.
Your camper.
Yes — the one currently parked in the gravel lot, wrapped up like a sad burrito.
I just wanted to check in because… well… I have had some thoughts.
Day 1 of Storage:
They’ll be back any minute.
You parked me, patted the side of the door, and said,
“Sleep tight, buddy.”
You did the whole sentimental walkaway thing.
I felt special.
Day 12:
Comfortable. Cozy. Confident.
Pretty sure they just ran into Target.
They probably got distracted.
I’ll see them later.
Day 32:
Something’s wrong.
They took the snacks.
ALL of them.
Not one granola bar left in the cupboard.
Was this… planned?
Day 47:
They came back!
They opened the door!
It’s happening!!!
…Never mind.
They were just grabbing the coffee maker.
And they didn’t even look at me.
Rude.
Day 65:
Plot twist:
I know that they waved at another camper when they drove past.
EXCUSE ME?
You do not wave at other campers while I am right here in storage pretending not to notice.
Day 80:
I’ve made friends.
The boat next to me snores.
The tractor complains about being cold.
The enclosed trailer says it’s “a different kind of adventure vehicle” but we all know he just hauls mulch.
We don’t judge.
We’re a family now.
Day 103:
You dropped off new leveling blocks.
Are these… gifts?
Is this… spring?
Day 129:
Somebody walked by and said,
“Can’t wait until spring.”
It sent a shiver down my axles...it has to be close.
SAME, PAM.
SAME.
Day 141:
I just want to say:
I remember it all.
The campfire smell.
The sunrise coffee.
The part where you swore at the sewer hose hookup because it “should be easier than this.”
We lived, we laughed, we dumped tanks.
Those were the days.
Even the laughter after the back-in. I remember it all.
Day 160 (today):
I heard birds.
Birds = spring
Spring = adventure
Adventure = US.
I may be parked…
but I am not forgotten.
I’m here.
Waiting.
Charged emotionally (and hopefully with a battery tender).
And when that first warm weekend hits?
Let’s roll.
Signed,
Your camper
