Campground Confessions: The Funniest Things We’ve Seen on the Road

Now that the camping season is coming to an end, it’s time to swap stories from the road — the kind of stories that make you laugh every time you tell them. Because let’s be honest: no matter how many checklists we make or how prepared we think we are, something always goes sideways when you’re camping.

One of our favorites this summer? The Great Hot Dog Heist.

I cannot make this up! We were getting ready to grill hot dogs over the fire — the smell of campfire smoke in the air, drinks in hand, the perfect evening ahead. When it was finally time to grab the buns from the picnic table… they were gone. Completely vanished.

After a few minutes of confused silence, a few minutes of feeling a bit crazy and then another 15 minutes of all 5 of us searching high and low we spotted the culprits: a band of fearless raccoons who had literally crawled right onto the table, swiped the entire bag of buns, and disappeared into the woods like furry little thieves. Later, we saw them making the rounds — no shame whatsoever — going campsite to campsite, snatching snacks and leftovers like they owned the place.

Turns out, those raccoons had a system. While one distracted the campers, the other went for the goods. Forget campfire entertainment — this was a full-blown raccoon comedy show. We couldn't get past the nerve!!!

But the best part of camping (and RV life) is that everyone’s got a story. The wrong turn that led to a hidden gem, the time your camper door wouldn’t latch in the middle of a storm, or when your neighbor’s awning became a kite in 30 seconds flat.
